No new COVID-19 cases in Grande Prairie area; one million Albertans now tested

The province has now tested over 1,000,000 Albertans for COVID-19, as there were 406 new cases (60 on Friday, 184 on Saturday and 162 on Sunday) identified over the weekend in the province.

The province completed just over 51,000 tests between Friday and Sunday at the provincial lab, bringing the total number of tests completed to 1,320,550 as of Sunday night. Those tests have now been completed on 1,001,638 Albertans.

“This is a big number, and a remarkable accomplishment of our health-care system,” said Health Minister Tyler Shandro, during Monday’s COVID-19 update.

“Alberta now has conducted more tests, per capita, than B.C., Ontario or Quebec. We all should be proud of what our labs have accomplished.”

There are now 1,549 active cases in the province, while 15,935 cases are considered recovered. There were four more fatalities reported that are linked to COVID-19, bringing the provincial death toll to 265.

Meanwhile, there were no new cases identified in Grande Prairie area over the weekend, as active cases in the City of Grande Prairie dropped to two with three more recoveries.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day September 27 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 97 cases (two active, 93 recovered, two deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 60 cases (11 active, 49 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 15 cases (two active, 11 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Three cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 11 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: One case (recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 74 cases (64 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 48 cases (43 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 17 cases (four active, 12 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 25 cases (two active, 23 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 16 cases (all recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 88 cases (one active, 86 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Nine cases (three active, six recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 55 cases (Two active, 53 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 402 cases (17 active, 372 recovered, 13 deaths)

Hospitalizations increased to 63 in the province over the weekend, with 15 of those individuals in ICU. In the North Zone, there are six people in hospital with one in ICU.
