All Grande Prairie area COVID-19 outbreaks resolved

Alberta Health is reporting all COVID-19 outbreak sites in the Grande Prairie area to be resolved as of the end of day Monday, as the City of Grande Prairie is reporting one new case for Tuesday’s update.

The outbreaks identified at the QEII Hospital and Prairie Lakes Seniors Facility have been removed from Alberta Health’s COVID-19 website, which Tom McMillan with Alberta Health says means Alberta Health Services has notified them about the outbreaks being considered over.

“Outbreaks are declared over when 4 weeks have passed with no new cases,” states Alberta Health.

Outbreaks at a group home run by Signature Support Services and the Heritage Lodge in Grande Prairie have also been removed from the list, while there have also been no school outbreaks noted as of September 28 in Grande Prairie.

There are now three active cases of COVID-19 in the City of Grande Prairie with the new case reported for Monday. Elsewhere in the Peace Region, the Peace River area no longer has any active cases, as there were two recoveries recorded there.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day September 28 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 98 cases (three active, 93 recovered, two deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 60 cases (11 active, 49 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 15 cases (two active, 12 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Three cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 11 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: One case (recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 74 cases (64 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 48 cases (43 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 17 cases (four active, 12 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 25 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 16 cases (all recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 88 cases (one active, 86 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Nine cases (three active, six recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 55 cases (One active, 54 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 411 cases (18 active, 380 recovered, 13 deaths)

Alberta-wide there were 160 new cases confirmed on Monday, upping the active case load to 1,571. A total of 16,072 cases are considered recovered, while one more fatality linked to COVID-19 was recorded Monday, bringing the provincial death toll to 266.

Hospitalizations sit at 63 in Alberta as of Monday, with 13 of those individuals in intensive care. In the North Zone, six people are hospitalized with one of those individuals in an ICU.

The provincial lab processed over 16,000 tests on Monday, bringing the completed total to 1,336,742 on 1,012,136 Albertans. Of those Albertans tested, 98,426 are from northern Alberta.
