New funding allows ACFA to re-open Employment Assistance Centre

L’Association Canadienne Francaise de Grande Prairie has announced the re-opening of their French Translation and Employment Assistance Centre.

Community services through the Centre had to be discontinued back in April after funding from the province was stopped.

However, a new agreement with the Francophone Economic Development Funds for Western Canada led to the resumption of services under the “Grande Prairie, A Welcoming and Dynamic Diversity” project.

According to Anna Kouazio, an administration assistant with the ACFA, the new funding allows them to resume a number of services offered through the Employment Assistance Centre.

“Services such as resumes and for driver’s licences. Because they are coming from different countries, it is a different drivers licence (process) and the registries ask them to get it translated from French to English in order to process the work. So they will come to us.”

They also offer labour market information and information on English courses, as well as computer use, fax and printing services.

Kouazio says the Centre serves a large Francophone population in the region.

“We don’t just serve the Francophone in Grande Prairie. We also assist people in the County of Grande Prairie, Peace River, and Valleyview, because there is not a Francophone Association (in those areas) that does these things. So when they need these services they come to Graande Prairie.”

The office is open for telephone inquiries Monday to Thursday from 8:30 AM to 4 PM.

Their phone number is 780-532-6335.
