RCMP lay charges after arson attack near High Prairie

The High Prairie RCMP have laid charges after a bulldozer was deliberately set on fire.

On August 24 at 1:15 a.m., High Prairie RCMP received a call of a bulldozer burning on the side of Township Road 782 on Peavine Metis Settlement.

The High Prairie fire department was also called in. Damage to the bulldozer was over $500,000.

The investigation into the incident resulted in two individuals being charged.

A 17-year-old male and 23-year-old Brett Blackhurst, both from High Prairie, have both been charged with arson and were released on undertakings with conditions.

Blackhurst is scheduled to appear in High Prairie court on November 16. The 17-year-old male is scheduled to appear in High Prairie Provincial Youth Court on November 2.

The youth’s name will not be made public because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
