Two cases of COVID-19 reported at Grande Prairie Christian School

Nov 5, 2020 | 10:16 AM

An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at the Grande Prairie Christian School, after two individuals from the school tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The Grande Prairie Public School Division notes that the cases are in a single household.

In a letter sent home to families on Wednesday, Deputy Superintendent James Robinson says the school remains open to in-person learning for students for those not identified as a close contact of the infected individuals. He adds they are working with Alberta Health Services to ensure necessary measures are in place.

“This includes cleaning and disinfecting key space, items touched by the individual and removing and storing items that cannot be cleaned and disinfected.”

Any students that need to quarantine will be provided with needed supports.

There are now three schools in the City of Grande Prairie that are listed as outbreak sites, including Riverstone Public School, St Joseph Catholic High School and the Grande Prairie Christian School.

There is one school outbreak listed in the County of Grande Prairie, that being St Mary’s Catholic School in Sexsmith. The Peace Wapiti Public School Division also says the Peace Wapiti Academy will be listed as an outbreak site, after two cases were identified at the school late last month.

Alberta Health Services declares an outbreak at a given school when there are two or more confirmed cases within a 14 day period where disease could have been acquired or transmitted in the school.
