Team Cortland Sonnenberg from Grande Prairie and Sexsmith picked up their first victory of the curling season this past weekend at the Leduc Lions U18 Bonspiel.

The event took place from November 6-8 and was an eight team event. Team Sonnenberg, which includes Third Owen Fenske, Second Jaxon Hiebert and Lead Adam Elsenheimer, finished with a 2-1 record in pool play, which was good enough to earn them top spot in Pool A. The top two seeds in each pool would make the playoffs.

In the playoff round, Sonnenberg’s rink knocked off Nathan Kelba’s rink by a score of 7-6 in the semi-final, which sent them to the tournament final.

In the final, Sonnenberg would match up against Kinley Burton’s rink. The two teams met in pool play and Team Sonnenberg defeated Burtons rink 7-1.
