ATF tip leads to firearms charges against Beaverlodge man

Nov 13, 2020 | 4:30 PM

A tip from the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to the Beaverlodge RCMP has led to firearms charges.

On October 29, Beaverlodge RCMP say they received information from the ATF concerning online content of a criminal nature, which was believed to have been posted by a resident of the Beaverlodge area.

RCMP were then able to obtain a search warrant for a home in Beaverlodge following an investigation. The search took place on November 7 and resulted in the seizure of three firearms.

Joseph Paul Campbell, a 38-year-old Beaverlodge resident, is now charged with three counts of possession of a firearm without a license and three counts of storage of a firearm in a careless manner.

Campbell has been released on cash bail, with conditions, and is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on November 30.

“This investigation is an example of how international agencies successfully work together to ensure the safety of our communities,” said Sgt. Ash Browne, Detachment Commander of Beaverlodge RCMP.

“Beaverlodge RCMP would like to remind residents that it’s important to inform us of any social media posts you feel could endanger the lives of their fellow citizens.”
