Northern Spirit light show opens tonight

Nov 19, 2020 | 11:00 AM

The Northern Spirit light show will open tonight.

The annual light show will look a little different this year because of the COVID-19 regulations that have been implemented.

“We have to do our part to minimize crowds, so there will be no hot chocolate booths, there will be no bonfires and there will be no wagons this year,” explained Jody White, the President of the Peace Draft Horse Club.

“It is strictly a drive-thru only. The price has stayed the same, it’s $15 a vehicle, doesn’t matter how many people are in the vehicle.”

Those attending the light show will also have to be aware that there is a new route for drivers this year.

All traffic attending the show will now have to take the first right turn after the train tracks and head towards the ball diamonds. Once that is completed, drivers are then asked to take their first left turn which will bring you around to the backside of the Tara Centre.

“In years past we have seen our traffic lined up all the way out to the traffic lights,” said White. “And with no foot traffic allowed for wagon rides, we are making this adjustment to provide emergency personnel with a clear path to Evergreen Park. It will also keep vehicles from getting stuck on the railroad tracks or in the intersection.”

White also tells EverythingGP that Food Bank donations are still being accepted.

White adds that they’re in compliance with all of the AHS rules and hope that they can put a smile on people’s faces.

“Just making sure we do everything right so that we can provide this for our community still. Our members were all in agreement that with how much has changed in the last six-eight months, it’s going to be pretty important to be able to put this on in order to have that sense of normal for our community.”

The light show will run every Thursday to Sunday night until December 10. After December 10, the light show will be open daily through New Year’s Eve. It will not be open on Christmas Day.
