Two new COVID-19 cases added in City of Grande Prairie, Alberta adds 1,115 new cases

For the second straight day, the City of Grande Prairie added two new cases of COVID-19 and also saw six more recoveries for Monday, November 24. That brings the number of active cases in the Swan City down to 78.

The Province of Alberta ended up reporting 1,115 new cases of COVID-19. The province also conducted 13,576 tests on Monday, creating a provincial positivity rate of 8.2 per cent.

Elsewhere in the Peace Region, the County of Grande Prairie saw no new cases and had one recovery, while the M.D. of Greenview added two new cases and had four recoveries. There are currently 42 active cases in the County of Grande Prairie and 40 active cases in the M.D. of Greenview.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day November 23 are as follows:

• City of Grande Prairie: 444 cases (78 active, 362 recovered, four deaths)
• County of Grande Prairie: 163 cases (41 active, 121 recovered, one death)
• M.D. of Greenview: 82 cases (40 active, 41 recovered, one death)
• Birch Hills County: Six cases (one active, five recovered)
• M.D. of Spirit River: 29 cases (one active, 28 recovered)
• Saddle Hills County: Eight cases (four active, four recovered)
• M.D. of Smoky River: 79 cases (two active, 67 recovered, ten deaths)
• Big Lakes County: 56 cases (three active, 48 recovered, five deaths)
• M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 38 cases (ten active, 28 recovered)
• M.D. of Peace: 110 cases (32 active, 78 recovered)
• M.D. of Fairview: 52 cases (six active, 45 recovered, one death)
• Clear Hills County: 98 cases (97 recovered, one death)
• Northern Sunrise County: 16 cases (two active, 14 recovered)
• County of Northern Lights: 67 cases (four active, 63 recovered)
• Mackenzie County: 428 cases (eight active, 407 recovered, 13 deaths)

Across the province, hospitalizations grew by 20 from 328 to 348. The number of people in an ICU grew by four from 62 to 66.

In the North Zone, there are 21 people in hospital, an increase of four from Monday. There are three people in intensive care.

Sixteen more deaths were reported as a result of COVID-19 in the province on Monday. That leaves total deaths at 492.

According to Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, 101 Albertans have died in the last week from COVID-19.

With the rapid rise in cases, hospitalizations and deaths over the last week, the province added new public health restrictions throughout the province on Tuesday.
