Suspect at large after striking Red Deer peace officer vehicle in stolen SUV

A female peace officer is recovering after being struck by a stolen vehicle on Saturday.

RCMP say it was at about noon when Mounties were called to the scene of an collision involving an SUV and a peace officer vehicle.

The SUV was travelling on 60 Street near 58 Avenue in Riverside Meadows, police say, when it veered into oncoming traffic and struck the oncoming peace officer vehicle.

The male suspect and lone occupant of the SUV fled the scene on foot and is still at large.

The peace officer was extracted from her vehicle by Red Deer Emergency Services and taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP have determined that the SUV, a black Jeep Cherokee, was stolen.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately six feet tall with short black hair in a mohawk style. He was wearing a black coat and black pants.
