New Hythe pioneer home facility officially named “Pearson Place”

The Village of Hythe’s new seniors facility has officially been named.

The new home, which is scheduled to open in the fall of 2021, will be called “Pearson Place”.

The new facility that is currently being constructed will be named after long-time community members Don and June Pearson, who are known for their work and dedication to the community.

According to Hythe Mayor Brian Peterson, there is no family more deserving of this honour than the Pearsons.

“Don and June have given so much to the town, both of their personal time, and of their finances over probably a 60-year period. They’re very humble and don’t want recognition and a lot of what they do is done anonymously. It was just overdue that they got some recognition.”

The impact that the Pearsons have had in the community has not gone unnoticed by the public.

In the time that they have lived in Hythe, they have donated money into improving the cemetery, helped paint the churches, donated to every group possible, helped people in need, supplied jobs in the community for over 40 years, and built a home for handicapped children that is still maintained and operated today.

For work, the Pearson family is very involved in the agriculture and construction business.

A small ceremony was held on December 8 where the Pearson’s learned that the facility will be named after them. Peterson says that the Pearsons were surprised by the announcement.

“They were humbled, but also didn’t feel that it was warranted. They underestimate what they’ve done immensely. They actually had to be convinced that maybe they deserved it.”

A post on the Village of Hythe Facebook page says that the couple has displayed contagious community spirit and magnified the importance of compassion and kindness, which is why they were honoured with the naming of the facility.
