Grande Prairie youth arrested and charged following drug trafficking investigation

Grande Prairie RCMP have charged and arrested a male youth with numerous offences following a drug trafficking investigation back in the fall.

The RCMP say that the received information and tips in the fall from the public regarding the potential sale of illicit cannabis and other drugs.

Following months of investigating on November 27, the RCMP Municipal Drug Enforcement Unit executed a search warrants on a residence in the Westpoint/Pinnacle neighbourhood.

The search of the residence led to the seizure of:

  • 561 grams illicit cannabis marijuana
  • 40 grams psilocybin
  • 25 grams MDMA
  • 4.35 grams powder cocaine
  • 5 grams cannabis resin
  • 16 grams shatter
  • 300 grams cannabis edibles
  • $1,420 in Canadian currency
  • Vacuum sealer
  • Electronic label maker
  • Large quantity of new, various sized re-sealable type plastic bags

The search also resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old Grande Prairie male, whose name cannot be revealed under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA)

The 17-year-old male has been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – MDMA
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Psilocybin
  • Possession of a controlled substance – cocaine
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Distribution of illicit cannabis by a person under 18 years of age

The youth was released from custody and put into the care of a guardian. He is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on December 23.
