Grande Prairie records 18 recoveries from COVID-19

COVID-19 recoveries have taken a big jump in Grande Prairie since Friday’s update.

The province is reporting 18 in that time, bringing the total up to 540. The number of active cases is down six to 119 as 12 new ones have been found since Friday.

Active cases and recoveries are each up by one in the County of Grande Prairie to 21 and 186 respectively.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day December 18 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 666 cases (119 active, 540 recovered, seven deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 208 cases (21 active, 186 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 128 cases (25 active, 102 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Seven cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 32 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: Nine cases (one active, eight recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 86 cases (six active, 70 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 107 cases (36 active, 66 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 95 cases (13 active, 82 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 173 cases (15 active, 158 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 57 cases (four active, 52 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 98 cases (97 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 74 cases (29 active, 45 recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 69 cases (all recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 467 cases (19 active, 434 recovered, 14 deaths)

COVID-19 has claimed 26 more lives in Alberta since Friday’s update. The total now stands at 841.

There are 777 people in hospital, up 18 from Friday, with ICU admissions are up 10 to 151. In the North Zone, the number of people in the hospital is down two to 31, while the number of patients in intensive care is up one to eight.

Alberta now has 19,260 active cases of the disease. There were 1,352 new cases found in the 18,502 tests completed for December 18. That creates a positivity rate of 7.3 per cent.
