Weapons, drugs seized following pursuit of wanted man in Horse Lake

Beaverlodge RCMP say weapons and drugs charges have been laid against a man wanted on outstanding warrants, following a brief pursuit in Horse Lake over the weekend.

Police say on January 2 they were called to a home in Horse Lake to remove a man on outstanding warrants.

Darcy Wanihandi was found at the home upon arrival, where he attempted to flee police on a snowmobile. Authorities say he crashed the snowmobile into a tree, where he then tried to flee on foot.

He was brought into custody soon afterwards.

RCMP say upon his arrest, a semi-automatic sawed off 12-gauge shotgun, ammunition, knives, brass knuckles were found on him. Drugs were also found, including methamphetamine, fentanyl, oxycodone and GHB.

Along with his outstanding charges, Wanhandi has been charged with 26 additional offences in relation to this incident, including:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Flight from Peace Officer
  • Resist/Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Carry a Concealed Weapon
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm/Prohibited Weapon or Restricted Weapon (X2)
  • Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of Firearm/Weapon/Device/Ammunition in a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Firearm/Prohibited Weapon when knowing the Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of Firearm/Prohibited Weapon with ammunition without license
  • Tampering with Serial Number of Firearm
  • Operate Motor Vehicle while Impaired
  • Fail to Comply with Release Condition (X6)
  • Possession of Weapons Contrary to Order (X3)
  • Drive Uninsured Motor Vehicle
  • Operate Motor Vehicle without Subsisting Certificate of Registration
  • Transport Liquor within Easy Access

Wanihandi remains in custody until his next appearance on January 13, 2021.
