Clarence James Christenson, resident of Clairmont, AB, formerly of Beaverlodge, AB, and Valhalla Centre, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021, at the QEII Hospital, at the age of 91 years.
Clarence was born in La Glace, AB, on September 19, 1929. He went to the Odin School. He worked on the family farm and then worked in a sawmill. In 1950, he moved to the U.S.A., where he worked in the oilfield from North Dakota to Texas. He returned to Canada in 1958 and started a landscaping company in Grande Prairie before returning to the family farm, where he farmed until retirement. He moved to Beaverlodge in 2000, where he lived until his failing health led to him requiring more care. He moved to Lakeview Senior’s Community in Clairmont in October 2020. He was admitted into the QEII Hospital on December 26, 2020, and passed away peacefully of natural causes on January 7, 2021.
Clarence was curious by nature; he liked to read, and this served as a way for him to explore all manner of subjects, particularly history and archeology. His vision and hearing may have failed over the years, but his mind remained sharp. If you asked and/or he felt compelled, he would share his stories, wisdom and insights, whether it was the experiences of his life or current world events.
He loved to travel, play crib and visit family. He connected easily with others, and it was not uncommon to hear from care aides, hospital staff, and others who crossed paths with him that they remembered meeting him.
Clarence will be sadly missed by his sisters: Gladys Farnsworth, Hazel Lovas and Francis (Howard) Prior; brother Erwin (Gail) Christenson; and his many loving nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Gustav; mother Ragna; sister Mildred Carlstad; brother Leonard; brothers in-law Alvin Carlstad, Tom Farnsworth, Alex Lovas, and Ken Shultz; and nephew Rocky Schultz.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
A special thank you to Dr. Glen Armstrong, as well as a thank you to the staff and homecare workers at Lakeview in Clairmont for the excellent care Clarence received while there.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hythe Legion Branch #93 (Box 626, Hythe, AB, T0H 2C0).
