County of Grande Prairie Council adding four additional meetings to 2021 calendar

Jan 17, 2021 | 7:00 AM

County of Grande Prairie Council will be meeting more often this year. Four additional meetings were added to the calendar for the remainder of the year at Monday’s meeting.

Council directed Administration to update Council calendars to include a Council Meeting every second Monday to help reduce the length of meetings.

Reeve Leanne Beaupre says this decision was made after recent meetings ran much longer than anticipated.

“What we have seen over the last four months is that those meetings have been run where we have recessed them one day, and actually continued them on into a second day, taking a substantial amount of time.”

County administration brought forward the request to add the additional meeting to not only address the length of the meetings, but also to allow for a full discussion of all the items on the agenda, plus take into consideration Council’s other commitments following Council meetings.

“And it’s unfair to individuals that are waiting, or listening in virtually when they are looking for an item that may be at the end of the agenda,” added Beaupre. “That is not going to be satisfied on one and it gets carried over to the second day.”

All meetings will continue to begin at 10 a.m. on scheduled Mondays.
