Sixteen new cases of COVID-19 recorded in Grande Prairie, 17 recoveries

There were 16 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the City of Grande Prairie for January 22 alongside 17 recoveries, bringing the city’s active case total down by one to 194 for the end of day Friday.

Friday’s testing also uncovered three new cases in the County of Grande Prairie and four recoveries, lowering the active case total there to 53.

As for the outbreak at the Prairie Lake Supportive Living Facility in Grande Prairie, Alberta Health tells EverythingGP there have been 81 cases linked to the outbreak as of January 22. Of those, 48 are considered active, 28 have recovered and five deaths have been recorded.

There were also two fatalities from COVID-19 recorded in northwestern Alberta for Saturday’s update, as Alberta Health reported 13 new deaths province-wide.

The fatalities were recorded in the Big Lakes County area (the eighth to be recorded there) and Northern Sunrise County (the first death linked to COVID-19 in that area).

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day January 22 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,102 cases (194 active, 893 recovered, 15 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 327 cases (53 active, 270 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 274 cases (55 active, 218 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Nine cases (two active, seven recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 42 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 15 cases (one active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 106 cases (12 active, 84 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 434 cases (92 active, 334 recovered, eight deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 164 cases (22 active, 142 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 336 cases (48 active, 288 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 56 cases (55 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 105 cases (104 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 211 cases (24 active, 186 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 72 cases (two active, 70 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 532 cases (31 active, 486 recovered, 15 deaths)

Alberta-wide there were 573 new cases confirmed on Friday, after 10,894 tests were completed, creating a positivity rate of about 5.3 per cent.

There are currently 9,727 active cases across Alberta, 1,325 of which are in the North Zone.

Hospitalizations once again dropped on Friday, which now sit at 676 across Alberta. Of those people admitted to hospital with COVID-19, 114 have been moved into the ICU.

In the North Zone, 74 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, seven of whom are in intensive care.

Alberta Health also says 98,807 doses of vaccine have been administered as of January 22.
