COVID-19 UPDATE: January 25

City of Grande Prairie adds six new COVID-19 cases, 22 recoveries

Alberta Health is reporting 362 new cases of COVID-19 for Sunday, January 23 in the province and that there are currently 9,337 active cases.

Meanwhile, the City of Grande Prairie added six new cases to go along with 22 recoveries, bringing it’s active case total down from 192 to 176.

There were two new cases added in the County of Grande Prairie, which also recorded eight more recoveries. There are currently 54 active cases in the region.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day January 24 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,113 cases (176 active, 919 recovered, 18 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 337 cases (54 active, 279 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 276 cases (51 active, 224 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Nine cases (two active, seven recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 42 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 15 cases (one active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 107 cases (12 active, 85 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 436 cases (77 active, 351 recovered, eight deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 177 cases (28 active, 149 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 339 cases (48 active, 291 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 56 cases (55 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (one active, 104 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 212 cases (22 active, 189 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 71 cases (two active, 69 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 534 cases (32 active, 487 recovered, 15 deaths)

Across the province, hospitalizations declined from 652 to 637, while ICU patients grew slightly from 111 to 113. In the North Zone, 77 people are in hospital, seven of whom are in an ICU.

There were 25 more deaths reported as a result of COVID-19, bringing the province’s death toll to 1,574.

Alberta Health conducted 7,186 tests over the last 24 hours, bringing the provincial test positivity rate to five per cent.

As of January 24, there have also been 99,453 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine distributed.
