Lore Stefan, resident of Wembley, AB, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 28, 2021, in Beaverlodge, AB, at the age of 91 years.
Lore was born to Henry and Louise Sieker, close to Huallen, AB, on July 11, 1929. She was baptized on September 1, 1929, and confirmed on May 21, 1944. Lore’s memory verse was John 3:16 “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
On December 1, 1950, Sigmunt and Lore exchanged their wedding vows at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed by God with five sons: Marvin, Norman, Allen, Lawrence and Gary. They settled on Dad’s family farm. There were no trees in the yard, so Mom started planting trees and was questioned “why?” by Grandpa Stefan. After all, he had worked so hard to remove them.
Mom will be remembered by her family for her cooking and baking, especially her buns and Christmas Schnecken. She loved to garden, and her flowerbeds were never big enough. Even when she was not able to do it herself, she still helped by pointing out “that was a weed, not a flower”. A bird book was always close to her chair, and notes were kept as to when the first hummingbird was spotted or if a new bird had been seen. In the winter, Mom kept busy by crocheting, knitting, crafting and working on jigsaw puzzles until carpal tunnel syndrome took its toll. In her later years, she took to doing sudoku and crossword puzzles.
Mom always looked forward to her weekly phone calls with her sister Trude and visits with her good friend Cheryl Campbell.
She ended up in the hospital for the last six months, where the nurses took over caring for her, as COVID-19 wouldn’t allow all the family to visit. The nurses said she never complained, even though they knew that she had to be in pain, and referred to her as a “sweetheart”.
She was God-fearing, loving and hard working. That was our Mom.
Lore is survived by her children: Marvin (Marion), Norman, Allen, Lawrence (Sandi), and Gary; grandchildren: Duane (Jenna), Denise (Paul) and Darrel; Joe (Sheryl); Terry (Jenn) and Tammy (Lee); great-grandchildren: Ayla, Jade, and Taya; Megan; Cody, Brady and Caylee; Vaughn; Trinity and Ainsley; sister Trude Kopp; brother Bob (Dorothy) Sieker; and sisters in-law: Ruth Sieker, Diane Sieker, Elsie Heikel and Marlene Stefan.
She was predeceased by her husband Sigmunt; parents Henry and Louise Sieker; parents in-law Gottfried and Lydia Stefan; daughter in-law Linda Stefan; brothers: Hans (Doreen), Rudy and Erwin Sieker; brothers in-law: Fred Kopp, Otto Stefan, John Heikel and Walter (Olga) Heikel.
The family of Lore expresses their thanks and gratitude to all that have kept them in their prayers and thoughts. May God bless all of you.
A Viewing will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021, at 7:00pm, at Oliver’s Funeral Home.
