City of Grande Prairie sees 15 recoveries from COVID-19, eight new cases

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 15 more recoveries from COVID-19, along with eight new cases for February 1, dropping the active case total in the city to 144 as of Monday night.

Nine more recoveries and one new case were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie, dropping the number of active cases there to 40.

Elsewhere in the Peace Region, the tenth death from COVID-19 complications was recorded in the Big Lakes County area. Alberta Health says the fatality was a female in her 70’s, and that the case included comorbidities.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day February 1 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,201 cases (144 active, 1,036 recovered, 21 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 358 cases (40 active, 314 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 293 cases (26 active, 265 recovered, two deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: Nine cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 44 cases (two active, 42 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 15 cases (one active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 109 cases (four active, 95 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 445 cases (27 active, 408 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 198 cases (37 active, 161 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 367 cases (35 active, 332 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 56 cases (55 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (one active, 104 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 216 cases (eight active, 207 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 72 cases (one active, 71 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 560 cases (40 active, 505 recovered, 15 deaths)

The province added 268 new cases for Monday, following the completion of just over 7,900 tests, creating a positivity rate of about 3.5 per cent.

There have also now been 50 cases of the U.K. variant of COVID-19 confirmed in Alberta to date, and seven have come from the South Africa variant.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says most have been the result of international travellers returning to Canada. Six were in close contacts of travellers, while eight have no known links to travel.

An additional 13 deaths linked to COVID-19 were recorded in the province on Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 1,660.

Hospitalization totals held at 556 as of Monday night in Alberta, with 97 of those people in an ICU. In the North Zone, 62 people are in hospital, eight of whom are in an ICU.
