COVID-19 outbreaks have been declared at two schools in Grande Prairie by Alberta Health, meaning there are at least five cases of COVID-19 linked to the schools.

Alberta Health has placed École Nouvelle Frontière under an outbreak status Wednesday, while Hillcrest Christian School was also listed as an outbreak site on Tuesday. Each school has between five and nine cases, according to Alberta Health.

In a letter sent home to families of École Nouvelle Frontière on Tuesday, AHS has contacted all close contacts, and those who do not test positive for COVID-19 can return to school on February 16.

Eight other schools in Grande Prairie are currently under an alert status, meaning there are between two and four cases linked to those schools. Those include:

  • Charles Spencer High School
  • Ecole Montrose
  • Crystal Park School
  • St Joseph’s Catholic High School
  • Roy Bickell Public School
  • Isabel Campbell School
  • Derek Taylor Public School
  • St. Kateri Public School

In the County of Grande Prairie, Whispering Ridge Community School is also under an alert status.

On Wednesday, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said that there are 307 schools in Alberta that are under at least an alert status. She adds that as of Tuesday, 746 cases have been linked to schools since students returned to class on January 11.
