Grande Prairie adds 28 new COVID-19 cases

Another 28 cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the City of Grande Prairie on Wednesday, along with 13 recoveries. That brings the active caseload in the city to 182 as of the end of day February 10.

This follows the addition of 24 new cases on Tuesday, making for 52 new cases over the past 48 hours.

Six new cases were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie, along with one recovery. That raises the active case total there to 41.

Across Alberta, 352 new cases were identified after just over 10,000 tests were completed. The provincial positivity rate now sits at about 3.5 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day February 10 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,327 cases (182 active, 1,124 recovered, 21 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 381 cases (41 active, 337 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 315 cases (31 active, 282 recovered, two deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 11 cases (two active, nine recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 45 cases (one active, 44 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 15 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 109 cases (99 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 458 cases (26 active, 422 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 224 cases (37 active, 187 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 380 cases (27 active, 353 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 56 cases (55 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 227 cases (15 active, 211 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 75 cases (three active, 72 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 587 cases (35 active, 537 recovered, 15 deaths)

Hospitalizations fell below 400 on Wednesday, dropping to 397, with 71 of those people in an ICU. Chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said that has brought the province back to the same level of hospitalizations as there were on November 23, 2020.

“This is a reminder that we must keep this downward trend occurring,” said Hinshaw.

In the North Zone, 48 people are in hospital, four of whom are in an ICU.

Sixteen more deaths were announced by Alberta Health on Thursday, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,744.

Dr. Hinshaw says over 135,000 doses of vaccine have been administered as of the end of day Wednesday, with over 42,000 Albertans having received both doses.
