Valleyview RCMP reminding drivers of highway intersection protocol

Feb 12, 2021 | 12:12 PM

The Valleyview RCMP is hoping to bring some awareness to motorists on how to safely proceed through intersections controlled by stop signs that cross Highway 43.

Cst. Kristy-Lynn Llewellyn of the Valleyview RCMP says the intersection of most concern is the intersection of Highway 43 and Highway 49, likely the busiest intersection in the town.

“We tried to get traffic lights here in town, but unfortunately that’s not an option,” said Llewellyn.

RCMP say those that are turning left onto Highway 43 are reminded that they must wait until all traffic has cleared the intersection, and that they must yield to a fellow motorist who is going straight through the intersection.

Llewellyn this reminder can apply to all divided highways across Alberta, especially with those intersecting with higher speed traffic.

“Luckily we are a 70 km/h zone through that area, but that’s not the case on all these range roads.”
