Feb 12, 2021 | 5:05 PM

An outbreak of COVID-19 has been confirmed at Signature Support Services in Grande Prairie Alberta Health says it has had six cases linked to it, all of which are active.

This is the second outbreak to be linked to Signature, which operates several community residences in Grande Prairie for those with developmental disabilities. The first outbreak came back in August. There was one fatality linked to that outbreak.

“Outbreaks in acute care and continuing care facilities (including group homes) are reported publicly when there are 2 or more cases, indicating that a transmission within the facility has occurred,” explains Alberta Health.

As for other outbreak sites in Grande Prairie, there are seven active cases linked to the Shell Gold Creek operation.

An outbreak has also been declared at Ovintiv’s Pipestone operation near Wembley. All five cases linked to the outbreak have now recovered.

In continuing care facilities, there are three active cases remaining at the Prairie Lake Supportive Living facility. That comes along with 82 recovered cases, as well as seven deaths.

There are also two active cases at the Grande Prairie Care Centre, to go along with 57 recoveries and six deaths.

An outbreak has also been declared in a medicine unit at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Grande Prairie, which has had three cases linked to it after being first declared on Feb. 1.
