There are now four schools in the City of Grande Prairie under a COVID-19 outbreak status. Both Charles Spencer High School and Alexander Forbes School are now reporting between five and nine cases, according to Alberta Health.

Those two join École Nouvelle Frontière and Hillcrest Christian School under an outbreak status. Ten or more cases have been linked to those schools.

There are seven schools in the city that are under an active alert status, meaning between two and four cases have been reported there as of Monday. These include Ecole Montrose, Parkside Montessori, St. Catherine School, Roy Bickell School, St. Clement School, Grande Prairie Christian School and Isabel Campbell School.

An alert also remains active at Whispering Ridge Community School.

Chief medical officer of health in Alberta, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, says that 264 schools across Alberta are under at least an active alert status as of Monday, accounting for approximately 11 per cent of all schools in the province.

She adds there have been 861 cases connected to schools in Alberta since Jan. 11, 2021, when students returned to in-person classes following the Holiday break.
