COVID-19 outbreak announced at Rotary House, other Grande Prairie sites

Feb 16, 2021 | 6:03 PM

An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at Rotary House in Grande Prairie, the second outbreak to be declared at the shelter during the pandemic.

Alberta Health spokesperson Tom McMillan tells EverythingGP that there are 14 cases linked to the outbreak, all of which are active.

This follows an outbreak that was declared in late 2020, which had 40 cases linked to it, all of which have recovered.

At the time of the first outbreak, the city and partner agencies said they had protocols in place to deal with such outbreaks at the facility, which offers shelter and supports for those who are experiencing homelessness, as well as other clientele.

Walmart

Several other new outbreak sites were listed in Grande Prairie Tuesday, including a new outbreak at Walmart. McMillan says there have been ten cases linked to that outbreak, two of which are active and eight of which have recovered.

This is the second outbreak to be announced at the store, after an outbreak that had 12 cases linked to it was reported in October 2020. All cases in that outbreak recovered.

Heritage Lodge

A second COVID-19 outbreak has been announced at the Heritage Lodge Seniors Home in Grande Prairie. This outbreak has seven cases that have been reported to Alberta Health, so far. All cases in this outbreak are considered active.

The first outbreak was declared in August 2020.

Other Grande Prairie outbreaks

Alberta Health says the outbreak at Signature Support Services is still at six cases, all of which are active. That remains unchanged from Friday’s update.

A new outbreak announced Tuesday was at what is described as a Private Group Home. There are six cases linked to that outbreak as well, all of which are active.

One new case has been linked to the outbreak at the Grande Prairie Care Centre, where there remain three active cases. There have also been 82 recovered cases and six deaths linked to that outbreak as well.

The outbreak at Prairie Lake Supportive Living remains unchanged from Friday’s update, holding at three active and 82 recovered cases. There have been seven deaths linked to COVID-19 from that outbreak.

An outbreak is also active at a medicine unit at the QEII Hospital, which Alberta Health Services says has had three cases linked to it, after being first reported on Feb. 1, 2021.

Four schools in Grande Prairie have also been placed under an outbreak status, while seven schools are under an active COVID-19 alert status.
