Grande Prairie adds 10 new COVID-19 cases, nine recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 10 new cases of COVID-19 for Tuesday as well as nine recoveries, raising the city’s active case total by one to 220 as of the end of day Feb. 16.

The County of Grande Prairie added two new cases and no recoveries, bringing the active caseload there to 43.

Across Alberta, there were 277 new cases discovered on Tuesday following the completion of approximately 7,500 tests. The provincial positivity rate now sits at 3.9 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day Feb. 16 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,429 cases (220 active, 1,188 recovered, 21 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 406 cases (43 active, 360 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 345 cases (48 active, 295 recovered, two deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (two active, 10 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 46 cases (two active, 44 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 15 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 110 cases (one active, 99 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 458 cases (23 active, 425 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 236 cases (35 active, 201 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 405 cases (39 active, 366 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 57 cases (one active, 55 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 232 cases (13 active, 218 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 76 cases (two active, 74 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 601 cases (37 active, 548 recovered, 16 deaths)

There were seven more deaths linked to COVID-19 reported by Alberta Health on Wednesday, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,798.

Hospitalizations increased slightly to 370 as of the end of day Tuesday, with 60 of those individuals in an ICU. In the North Zone, 45 people are in hospital with no one in an ICU.

Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, said Wednesday that about 152,000 doses of vaccine have been administered in Alberta, with over 56,500 Albertans having received two doses.
