Grande Prairie adds 20 new COVID-19 cases, 13 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 20 new cases of COVID-19 for Thursday while also adding 13 recoveries, raising the active case total by seven to 237 as of the end of day feb. 18.

There were five new cases recorded in the County of Grande Prairie, along with three recoveries. There are now 48 active cases there.

Across Alberta there were 325 new cases recorded on Thursday following the completion of 9,376 tests. Those tests came back with a 3.5 per cent positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day February 18 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,471 cases (237 active, 1,213 recovered, 21 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 415 cases (48 active, 364 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 358 cases (57 active, 299 recovered, two deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (one active, 11 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 47 cases (three active, 44 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 15 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 110 cases (one active, 99 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 457 cases (16 active, 431 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 239 cases (27 active, 212 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 403 cases (40 active, 363 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 57 cases (one active, 55 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 233 cases (13 active, 219 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 77 cases (two active, 75 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 659 cases (87 active, 556 recovered, 16 deaths)

Hospitalizations decreased by 10 to 352 as of Thursday night in Alberta, with 55 of those individuals in an ICU. In the North Zone, 53 people are in hospital, with no one in intensive care for COVID-19.

Seven more deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported by Alberta Health on Friday, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,812 to be attributed to COVID-19 complications.

A total of 160,423 doses of vaccine have now been administered in Alberta, with 61,519 Albertans receiving both doses.

The province also announced that Phase 1B of its vaccine rollout would commence beginning today, with Phase 2 scheduled to begin in April, depending on the supply of vaccine.
