Grande Prairie Composite High placed under COVID-19 Alert status

Feb 19, 2021 | 4:41 PM

Grande Prairie Composite High School is the latest school to be placed under a COVID-19 alert status by Alberta Health, meaning between two and four cases have been detected within individuals from the school.

Seven other Grande Prairie school are also under an alert status, which include Parkside Montessori, St. Catherine, Roy Bickell, Riverstone, St. Clement, Isabel Campbell and Grande Prairie Christian School. Whispering Ridge in the County of Grande Prairie is also under an alert status.

Meantime, five schools in the Swan City are listed under a COVID-19 outbreak status, including Alexander Forbes, Charles Spencer and Ecole Montrose. The status indicates between five and nine individuals from the school have tested positive.

“What causes us to move to ‘Outbreak Status’ is members of the school community who have tested positive, but were not in attendance during their period of contagiousness. They do not impact the school community, but they do get counted as school cases,” said Deputy Superintendent of the Grande Prairie Public School Division James Robinson, in an email to EverythingGP Thursday.

“Because of this, some of our schools were recently moved to ‘Outbreak Status’, though they have actually had less than 5 instances of individuals attending our schools while contagious in the last 28 days.”

École Nouvelle Frontière and Hillcrest Christian School are also under an outbreak status, and are reporting at least 10 cases.
