Certain Toro snow throwers the subject of a recall notice due to serious injury risk

A recall notice has been issued for the 2021 Toro Power Max 826 OHAE snow throwers as they pose a risk of serious injury to the user.

The recall affects the machines with model number 37802 and UPC 02103837822. Those numbers can be found on a sticker at the rear of the snow thrower.

The machines, of which there are 679 in Canada, sold between November 2020 and January 2021, and a full list of serial numbers can be found here.

Health Canada says the machines are being recalled as the roll pins located in the handle latching assembly can crack and fall out.If that happens, then the auger/impeller is unable to disengage, and spins at full speed while the engine is running. This malfunction can pose the risk of serious injury to the user, including amputation.

As of January 26, 2021, the company has received reports of four snow throwers missing rolling pins in Canada, though there have been no reports of injuries related to the issue.

Those who have purchased the machine are advised to stop using it immediatly, and to locate a Toro authorized service dealer to schedule an inspection and necessary repairs for the machine.
