A 57-year-old Grande Prairie man is facing drug trafficking charges, following an investigation that led to the seizure of meth, crack cocaine and fentanyl at a Montrose neighbourhood home earlier this month.

Authorities say they received complaints from Montrose area residents, which led to the investigation being initiated.

On Feb. 12, members of the Grande RCMP Municipal Enforcement Drug Unit executed a search warrant at the Grande Prairie home. The search resulted in the seizure of 160 grams of methamphetamine, 44 grams of fentanyl, 20 grams of crack cocaine and $10,500 cash.

David Ernest Kendell is now charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000 and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.

Kendell is scheduled to appear in court on March 24.

“The RCMP would like to thank the community members and Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) for their assistance in the investigation,” add the RCMP in a release. “SCAN is a unit of the Alberta Sheriffs that helps keep communities safe by dealing with problem properties that are being used for specific illegal activity such as drug trafficking, prostitution, child exploitation and gang-related crime.”

“SCAN can be contacted toll-free at 1-866-960-SCAN (7226) or by visiting the alberta.ca website.”

Police add that anyone who suspects drug activity in their community is encouraged to contact their local RCMP detachment.
