Grande Prairie man charged following break-in at Hythe area construction site

Feb 25, 2021 | 12:13 PM

A Grande Prairie man has been charged in connection with a break-in at a construction site near Hythe earlier this month.

Just after midnight on Feb. 2, Beaverlodge RCMP say they were alerted by an employee at the construction site of a trespasser. Police responded and found evidence of a recent break, enter and theft.

Authorities say they soon after met with Hythe Citizens on Patrol, who were quick to confirm the suspect’s white pickup truck, which had left the scene heading southbound.

Thanks to this tip, RCMP soon after spotted the suspect vehicle and tried to initiate a stop, but the truck attempted to get away. The truck went off the road and into the ditch a short distance later.

RCMP arrested two men at that spot. Following an investigation, police charged 26-year-old Nathan Anthony Landry with break and enter to commit theft, flight from police, dangerous operation motor vehicle, operation of motor vehicle while prohibited, possession of stolen property over $5,000, two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, and three counts of failure to comply with conditions of release.

Following a judicial hearing, Landry was remanded in custody before his next date in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on March 10.

“These results would not be possible if it were not for the quick 911 call from the employee at the construction site with a detailed description, along with the observations from the Hythe Citizens on Patrol,” said Sgt. Ash Browne, Detachment Commander of Beaverlodge RCMP.

“By working together, this case was solved quickly and this offender is now before the courts.”
