International Paper grant to provide sound improvements to Knelsen Community Centre

Feb 28, 2021 | 9:11 AM

The Buffalo Gravel gymnasium within the Knelsen Community Centre in Bezanson is in line for some upgrades, thanks to funding from the International Paper Foundation, and the company’s Grande Prairie Mill.

Bezanson Ag Society Executive Director Audrey Hewings says the 20 thousand dollar grant they are receiving will be used towards the installation of acoustic sound treatment for the gymnasium.

“First there will be an evaluation of the existing sound that is in there. They bring in their instruments and do a soundcheck. And then propose the installation of what kind of proper acoustical treatment will be installed to eliminate the sound issues.”

The concrete build of the gym has led to negative sound issues for users of the facility for community events.

Hewings says they greatly appreciate being able to partner with International Paper on a project like this.

“Their signature causes include education, health, and wellness. They believe in investing their money back into their local communities where they operate. And we actually have representatives from International Paper that are quite involved with our activities and our events within our area.”

The Knelseen Community Centre in Bezanson has been open now for two years, and Hewings says the gymnasium was fully booked for all kinds of activities, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
