Grande Prairie adds 24 new COVID-19 cases, 15 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 24 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, along with 15 recoveries, bringing the active case total in the city to 217 as of the end of day March 2.

The County of Grande Prairie added five new cases and one recovery, bringing the active case total there to 61.

Across Alberta, there were 402 new cases identified following the completion of 10,362 tests. Those tests came back with a positivity rate of about 3.9 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day March 2 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,670 cases (217 active, 1,430 recovered, 23 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 473 cases (61 active, 409 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 393 cases (41 active, 349 recovered, three deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 47 cases (one active, 46 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 111 cases (one active, 100 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 461 cases (eight active, 442 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 253 cases (16 active, 237 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 450 cases (49 active, 401 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 57 cases (56 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 236 cases (seven active, 228 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 96 cases (20 active, 76 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 890 cases (237 active, 635 recovered, 18 deaths)

Hospitalizations declined on Tuesday to 251 in Alberta, with 48 of those individuals in an ICU. In the North Zone, 25 people are in hospital with one in an ICU.

There were 12 new deaths reported to Alberta Health from COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the province’s COVID-19 death toll to 1,902.

There have now been 255,283 doses of vaccine administered in the province, with 89,094 Albertans having been fully immunized.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, announced Wednesday that starting March 10, Albertans will begin receiving their second dose up to four months after their first jab.
