ASG Opening Ceremonies Thursday

The Alberta Summer Games Opening Ceremonies kick off Thursday evening at the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum in Wembley.

Scheduled to attend and speak is the Culture and Tourism Minister Ricardo Miranda as well there will also be representatives from the city and county there.

“The Alberta Summer Games is an important milestone in the careers of our amazing young athletes. Congratulations and best of luck to all the Alberta Summer Games athletes over the next four days, and thank you to the volunteers, organizers and the City and County of Grande Prairie for all the work they have put into hosting the Games,” said Miranda.

The overall economic impact of the games for the city and area is estimated $3-million.

Athletes aged 11 to 17 will be competing in 14 sports Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the event first event taking place Friday at 8:30 a.m.

“Grande Prairie is a great sport community and well known for hosting outstanding sport events, with its terrific facilities, organizational skills and thousands of friendly, dedicated volunteers”, said Kelly Blackshaw, Vice Chair of ASC. “Our young athletes from throughout Alberta are excited to compete at these Games, are looking forward to the memories and experiences they’ll share, and for some of them, this will be a first step in their journey to representing Alberta at future national and international competitions.”
