Mar 5, 2021 | 5:33 PM

Nine Grande Prairie schools now sit under a COVID-19 outbreak status, as Alberta Health has placed Grande Prairie Composite High School under the category on Friday. There are now between five and nine cases to have been confirmed among individuals from Grande Prairie Composite High School.

This comes after Swanavon School in Grande Prairie was also placed under an outbreak status on Thursday.

Four of the schools under an outbreak have 10 or more cases confirmed as of Friday, those being Aspen Grove, Swanavon, St. John Paul II and École Nouvelle Frontière.

Five other outbreaks have between five and nine cases confirmed, including GP Comp, St. Catherine, Charles Spencer, Ecole Montrose and Alexander Forbes.

Alerts are active at seven other schools in the city, meaning there have been between two and four cases confirmed. Those schools include Riverstone, Parkside Montessori, St. Clement, Ecole St. Gerard, Harry Balfour, Hillside Community School and Grande Prairie Christian School.

Outbreaks and alerts are considered over when 28 days have passed with no new cases confirmed within the school setting.
