Mar 5, 2021 | 5:54 PM

An Alberta-champion curler from Fairview has passed.

Mel Watchorn passed away February 26 in Fairview at age 82.

Watchorn skipped his team of third Jim Fox, second Terry Watchorn and lead Merv Watchorn to three Alberta men’s curling titles, in 1972,1973, and 1981. They represented Alberta at the Brier all three years.

Their best placing was in 1972 when they finished tied for third in the round robin at 6-4. There were no playoff games in those years.

An online obituary on the Chapel of Memories web site says Watchorn also farmed his entire life and was involved in designing and building golf courses, including The Dunes south of Grande Prairie.

A private family service for Mel was held Wednesday.
