The Grande Prairie Downtown Association handed out some hardware Monday, presenting two local businesses with annual awards.

The 2020 Downtowner of the Year Award was presented to Better than Fred’s owner John Kriska. The award is presented to businesses who have been recommended by fellow business owners who feel they are deserving of the award.

The association says in a social media post that the establishment has been the hub for live entertainment in the downtown core.

“Although 2020 has been such a difficult year, John and his staff have worked incredibly hard in keeping Fred’s a staple here in Grande Prairie while giving back to his community through volunteering and donation.”

Meantime, Melissa St. Pierre from Petals and Posies was presented with the Art Ouelette Award, which has been given out annually since 1997 business owners who have made an outstanding contribution to the city centre, by meeting or exceeding beautification and customer service.

“Melissa has demonstrated outstanding attention to detail, combined with the enthusiasm reflecting pride of property and customer service,” sys the association.

“To open this fabulous business in 2020 displays a positive attitude, tenacity and the vision to bring our community beauty and your expertise.”
