COVID-19 UPDATE: March 8

Grande Prairie adds 28 COVID-19 cases over last two days, 20 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added a combined 28 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday and Sunday, along with 20 recoveries over that same timeframe, bringing the active case count in the city to 227 as of March 7.

Alberta Health did not provide local COVID-19 information on Sunday, due to maintenance to its website.

The County of Grande Prairie, meanwhile, added seven new cases and three recoveries. There are now 69 active cases in that region.

Over the last two days, Alberta added 506 new cases of COVID-19, 304 were found on March 6 and 278 on March 7.

March 6 resulted in a test positivity rate of 5.0 per cent, March 7 had a positivity rate of 3.7 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of March 7 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 1,751 cases (227 active, 1,501 recovered, 23 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 495 cases (69 active, 423 recovered, three deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 417 cases (47 active, 367 recovered, three deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 47 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 112 cases (one active, 101 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 461 cases (one active, 449 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 255 cases (12 active, 243 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 469 cases (54 active, 415 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 58 cases (one active, 56 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 239 cases (five active, 233 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 96 cases (10 active, 86 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 948 cases (164 active, 766 recovered, 18 deaths)

Hospitalizations sat at 254 as of March 7, with 36 people in an ICU. In the North Zone, 32 people are in hospital, one of whom is in intensive care.

Six more deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported to Alberta Health on Monday, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,920.

297,692 doses of vaccine have now been administered in Alberta, with over 91,000 Albertans now having been fully immunized.
