Two people arrested, drugs and firearm seized in Grande Prairie traffic stop

Two individuals have been arrested and face a number of drugs and firearms charges following an early morning traffic stop in Grande Prairie.

At approximately 1:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 11, Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit stopped a suspicious vehicle while on partol in the area of 101 Street and 111 Avenue.

Further investigation into the vehicle revealed that the license plate was not registered to the vehicle, and that the vehicle had been stolen.

The driver and passenger were arrested, and a search of the vehicle uncovered 13 grams of cocaine, eight grams of heroin, and a loaded .22 calibre rifle.

The RCMP arrested 39-year-old Jonathon Anderson and 23-year-old Lenny Bolton, both of whom are from Grande Prairie. The pair have been charged with:

  • Possession of Stolen Property
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (x2)
  • Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public
  • Careless Use of a Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Vehicel
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of a Firearm Contrary to a Prohibition Order

Anderson also faces two additional counts of Possession fo a Firearm Contrary to a Prohibition Order and one count of Fraud Over $5,000.

Following a judicial hearing, Anderson was remanded in custody and is due to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on March 15. Bolton was released on an order to appear in court on the same day.
