Suspect wanted on several outstanding warrants arrested in Grande Prairie

Grande Prairie RCMP say they have arrested a 29-year-old city resident who had been wanted on several warrants out of both Grande Prairie and Edmonton.

Police say an investigation into the whereabouts of the man confirmed the suspect to be at a home in Grande Prairie. On March 12, officers attended the home where they confirmed he was in fact there but refused to exit the home.

After obtaining a warrant to enter the home, officers and police dog services entered and arrested Ryan Bateson of Grande Prairie. He has since been charged with resisting arrest, obstruction and failing to comply with a release order.

RCMP say this arrest came as part of a crime reduction initiative to locate known offenders who were wanted on outstanding warrants.

“Grande Prairie RCMP utilizes various crime reduction strategies which have had a positive impact on curbing criminal activity in the Grande Prairie area,” they explained in a release. “Crime reduction is a policing priority for the Grande Prairie RCMP and initiatives undertaken by the detachment are an important piece of the overall policing strategy designed to reduce the negative impact of crime in our community.”

Bateson was released following a judicial hearing. He is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on April 7.
