Jason Griffin, resident of Grande Prairie, AB, formerly of Sylvan Lake, AB, passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021, in Grande Prairie at the age of 38 years.
Jason Kenneth Griffin was born May 21, 1982, in Grande Prairie. He was the second son of Ken and Erna (Nee MacKinnon) and younger brother to Robert. Since his father worked in the oil patch, the family moved to Spruce Grove, AB, St. Albert, and finally Red Deer, before Jason began Kindergarten. He attended elementary school and junior high in Edmonton, AB but graduated in Grande Prairie.
Jason followed his grandfather, dad, and uncle into the oil patch. He was proud of being the manager of Innacore in Fort St. John, BC. His travels took him to Sylvan Lake in 2009, where he met and married Terri Tisdale in 2011. Jason worked construction for a friend. In 2012, he found his dream job when Terri’s father hired him to work road construction. From then on, he was a Heavy-Duty Equipment Operator and loved every minute. For the last few years, Jason was working in Fort McMurray. Jason was a proud member of the Operating Engineers Local 955, he talked fondly of the work, and loved those “BIG MACHINES.”
Jason loved heavy metal music and animals, especially his dog, Dozie. He and his brother spent many days and nights sitting in the hot tub listening to music and arguing which band was the best. He loved to cook and barbeque for family and friends.
Jason loved his only niece, Olivia, very much, when he would come visit, he would take her shopping and go to IHop for lunch. Jason had an infectious laugh, a booming voice, and a heart as big as all of Alberta. Jason enjoyed sitting around a campfire, reminiscing, and having a cold one. Heaven is a little brighter because of “Big Griff.”
He will be sadly missed by his wife Terri Tisdale of Sylvan Lake, father Ken (Pam) of Grande Prairie, mother Erna Stern (Brian) of Thorsby, brother Robert of Water Valley, AB, stepsister Kelly and family of Sylvan Lake, niece Olivia Griffin of Edmonton, Nana Joan, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, many friends and co-workers.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Violet and Beattie MacKinnon, paternal grandparents Gerry and Gladys Griffin, and uncles Merv Griffin and Autry MacKinnon.
Due to COVID restrictions, the family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to Saving Grace Animal Society (4932 50 Ave., Alix, AB, T0C, 0B0), or to a charity of one’s choice.
