A Grande Prairie-born sailor has been picked for her fifth Olympics.

A story posted on the Canadian Olympic Committee website says Nikola Girke is one of nine athletes (four women and five men) named to the sailing team.

The story adds Girke would be the first Canadian woman, and second Canadian sailor ever to compete in five Summer Games if Tokyo 2020 goes ahead from July 23 to August 8 as scheduled. It has already been postponed by a year because of the pandemic.

The COC report says Girke will compete in windsurfing (officially called RS:X) this time, same as two previous games. She competed in a different class at Rio 2016.

The windsurfing for Tokyo 2020 is scheduled to start July 25 with the medals being decided July 31.

Girke now lives in Vancouver.
