Container ship freed from Suez Canal jam

Mar 29, 2021 | 9:23 AM

Salvage teams have freed the container ship “Ever Given” and are towing it toward the Great Bitter Lake, which is halfway between the north and south ends of the Suez Canal.

The huge container ship got stuck sideways in the canal last Tuesday and was finally freed thanks to a high tide and the work of 10 tugboats.

It’s not clear when shipping traffic will return to normal.

At least 367 vessels loaded with everything from crude oil to cattle have piled up on either end of the canal.

That has caused a backlog that one data firm estimates could take more than 10 days to clear.
