Highway 724 blocked until further notice following fuel spill

Apr 2, 2021 | 8:20 PM

Highway 724 near Township Road 725 has been blocked until further notice following a significant fuel spill.

The spill occurred following a tractor-trailer rollover where the truck was hauling diesel and gasoline.

The County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service and Wembley Fire Department are on the scene and says between 5,000 and 6,000 liters of gasoline spilled into the east ditch.

The spill has been contained in the ditch by fire crews and no waterways have been impacted.

Approximately 15,000 to 16,000 liters of gasoline is still on board, which is slowly leaking.

Officials will release further information once the highway re-opens. Detours are currently established.
