Grande Prairie adds 36 new cases, Alberta surpasses 2,000 COVID-19 deaths

The City of Grande Prairie added 36 new cases of COVID-19 along with 22 recoveries for April 5, bringing the active case total in Grande Prairie up to 372.

Meanwhile, the County of Grande Prairie added 14 new cases and eight recoveries to bring the active total in the community to 157.

An update was also provided on outbreak sites in the Grande Prairie area:

  • Gardens at Emerald Park, Grande Prairie: 2 cases (both active)
  • Stepping Stones South Daycare, Grande Prairie: 5 cases (2 active, 3 recovered)
  • Tourmaline Oil Nabors, Grande Prairie: 17 cases (all recovered)

Alberta Health also reported three deaths linked to COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the provincial death toll up to 2,001.

The new figures come as 931 new cases were confirmed across Alberta following the completion of 9,126 tests, meaning the positivity rate for April 5 was 10 per cent. There are now 10,809 active covid-19 cases in the province.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 5 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 2,308 cases (372 active, 1,912 recovered, 24 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 731 cases (157 active, 570 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 472 cases (26 active, 443 recovered, three deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 13 cases (one active, 12 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 52 cases (two active, 50 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 15 cases (one active, 14 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 117 cases (five active, 102 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 485 cases (15 active, 459 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 265 cases (eight active, 257 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 500 cases (13 active, 487 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 69 cases (10 active, 58 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 108 cases (two active, 105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 250 cases (six active, 243 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 99 cases (one active, 98 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,266 cases (57 active, 1,189 recovered, 20 deaths)

Hospitalizations in Alberta rose by 10 to 328, while ICU patients stayed flat at 76. In the North Zone, there are 35 Albertans in hospital, five of whom are in intensive care.

Meanwhile, Alberta Health reports that 734,403 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the province, and that 123,272 Albertans are now fully immunized with both their shots.
