Grande Prairie adds 44 new COVID-19 cases, 33 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 44 new cases of COVID-19 along with 33 recoveries for Thursday, April 8. There are currently 485 active cases in City.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 18 new cases identified and 13 recoveries, bringing the active case total to 195.

Alberta added 1,521 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, 674 were a variant of concern. Alberta Health completed 15,611 tests, resulting in a 9.7 per cent test positivity rate. There are currently 13,059 active cases in the province.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 8 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 2,497 cases (485 active, 1,988 recovered, 24 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 808 cases (195 active, 609 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 479 cases (28 active, 447 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 14 cases (two active, 12 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 54 cases (three active, 51 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 16 cases (one active, 15 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 118 cases (six active, 102 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 498 cases (21 active, 466 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 269 cases (eight active, 261 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 505 cases (14 active, 491 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 72 cases (11 active, 60 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 112 cases (six active, 105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 253 cases (seven active, 245 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 99 cases (one active, 98 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,275 cases (28 active, 1,227 recovered, 20 deaths)

Across the province, hospitalizations fell by seven down to 333, while the number of ICU patients remained stable at 83. In the North Zone, there are 38 people in hospital, five of them are in intensive care.

Two more deaths were reported as a result of COVID-19, bringing the provinces COVID-19 death toll to 2,007.
