Grande Prairie adds 29 new COVID-19 cases, 28 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 29 new cases of COVID-19 and 28 recoveries for Monday, raising the active case total in the city at 480 as of the end of day April 12.

The County of Grande Prairie saw eight new cases added along with 11 recoveries. There are now 204 active cases in that region.

Across Alberta, there were 1,081 new cases identified following the completion of 12,000 tests. Those tests had an 8.9 per cent positivity rate.

There were also 705 cases involving variants of concern in the province on Sunday. Variant cases now make up 52.4 per cent of the 15,087 active cases in the province.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 12 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 2,614 cases (480 active, 2110 recovered, 24 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 858 cases (204 active, 650 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 481 cases (23 active, 454 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 14 cases (two active, 12 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 57 cases (six active, 51 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 18 cases (three active, 15 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 124 cases (nine active, 105 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 522 cases (46 active, 465 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 271 cases (nine active, 262 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 517 cases (23 active, 494 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 78 cases (13 active, 64 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 113 cases (six active, 106 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 253 cases (seven active, 247 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 103 cases (four active, 99 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,315 cases (59 active, 1,236 recovered, 20 deaths)

There are 402 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Monday night, an increase of 12 over the last 24 hours. Of those in hospital, 88 patients are in intensive care.

In the North Zone, 38 people are in hospital, four of whom are in intensive care.

Three more deaths were reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. There have now been 2,021 Albertans who have died from COVID-19 complications.
