Storm to play Fort McMurray in second phase of AJHL regular-season

The Alberta Junior Hockey League has announced the next phase of their regular-season schedule.

The league announced that the 12 teams competing will only play in a two-team cohort, smaller than the three-team cohorts that occurred in the first phase of the leagues season.

Cohorts will take place from April 16-25 and feature the following teams:

  • Cohort #1 – Olds Grizzlys, Calgary Canucks.
  • Cohort #2 – Drumheller Dragons, Okotoks Oilers (April 23-25th weekend only).
  • Cohort #3 – Bonnyville Pontiacs, Whitecourt Wolverines.
  • Cohort #4 – Sherwood Park Crusaders, Brooks Bandits.
  • Cohort #5 – Grande Prairie Storm, Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
  • Cohort #6 – Spruce Grove Saint, Drayton Valley Thunder.

This coming weekend, the Grande Prairie Storm will travel to Fort McMurray to play the Oil Barons. Fort McMurray currently holds the best record in the AJHL North Division at 10-0-2.

The Grande Prairie Storm are fifth in their division and have a 4-5-1 record on the season.

The series schedule is as follows:

  • April 16 – Storm @ Oil Barons – 6:00 p.m.
  • April 17 – Storm @ Oil Barons – 4:00 p.m.
  • April 23 – Oil Barons @ Storm – 6:00 p.m.
  • April 24 – Oil Barons @ Storm – 4:00 p.m.

The team cohort groupings and schedule format for the final four weeks of the season (April 26th – May 23rd) will be determined based on Provincial health restrictions.

Teams will continue to undergo weekly COVID-19 testing throughout the season.

All games will be broadcasted on HockeyTV, fans will not be allowed in attendance.
