Grande Prairie adds 75 new COVID-19 cases, 54 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 75 new cases of COVID-19 and 54 recoveries for Sunday, bringing the active case total in the Swan City up by 21 to 500 as of the end of day April 18.

The County of Grande Prairie saw 27 new cases along with 18 recoveries. There are now 215 active cases there.

Across Alberta, there were 1,391 new cases identified following the completion of 12,588 tests. Those tests had an 11 per cent positivity rate.

There were also 1,160 cases involving variants of concern in the province. Variant cases make up 56.8 per cent of the 18,424 active cases in Alberta.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day April 18 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 2,855 cases (500 active, 2,331 recovered, 24 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 971 cases (215 active, 752 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 498 cases (29 active, 465 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 18 cases (five active, 13 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 65 cases (13 active, 52 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 23 cases (eight active, 15 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 132 cases (16 active, 106 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 586 cases (104 active, 471 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 280 cases (16 active, 264 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 539 cases (39 active, 500 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 95 cases (30 active, 64 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 129 cases (22 active, 106 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 270 cases (17 active, 252 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 112 cases (13 active, 99 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,408 cases (139 active, 1,249 recovered, 20 deaths)

There were 460 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Sunday night, an increase of nine over the last 24 hours. Of those, 104 patients are in intensive care, up one from the day prior.

In the North Zone, 38 people are in hospital, seven of whom are in intensive care.

Three more deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours. There have been 2,043 Albertans who have died from COVID-19 complications.

There have now been 1,166,125 doses of vaccine administered in the province as of April 18, with a total of 17,556 being administered on Sunday.

233,687 Albertans have been fully immunized with two doses.
